The Crash
By: Freida McFadden
Synopsis:
This is a story about motherhood, survival, and twisted expectations. Tegan, who is 23 years old and eight months pregnant remembers a crucial detail about the night she conceived her baby. This detail could change her life forever. When things take a turn, Tegan hits the road...straight into a blizzard. Stuck in rural Maine, with a car she can't drive and a broken ankle, it's the last place she wants to be. Luckily for, her a couple offers her a room in their cabin until the roads are clear.
But maybe being stranded and alone wasn't so bad after all...
My Review:
**Disclaimer: Rape is part of the story, however I will say it doesn't go into detail. It mostly just references small details such as the man’s face and smell.
The characters are described a certain way in order to fill their purpose in the story. In this book, I don't think the behaviors of the characters were predictable in any way. I thoroughly enjoyed that we get to read from the perspective of three different characters Tegan, Polly and Hank. Tying the story together through each perspective made the book more interesting and at times a little refreshing.
It seems like a lot of people did not finish this book because they were tired of Tegan referring to her baby as "Little Tuna" and talking about her broken ankle. I will say that if you do focus on that I could definitely agree, but I believe it is worth pushing through to the end. For the main chunk of the story, the back and forth repetitious thoughts can get slightly irritating. I think this is when the different perspectives aspect is nice to keep it refreshing. The entire plot of this story is filled with tension in some way. Even the more boring moments keep you guessing.
Some parts of this story may be predictable, but never any of the big parts. The ending was definitely one of the parts I never would have predicted. I was actually quite shocked. This was a crazy story that also somehow became a wholesome story for most.
Overall, this may not be the most exciting story for everyone, but the tension and suspense is there throughout the entire book. On top of that, I would say the short chapters make it a quick read and the ending in my opinion is worth finishing the book.
